Frozen Food Giant Amy’s Kitchen Opens Nation’s First Organic Vegetarian Drive Thru

Health food giant Amy’s Kitchen—known for its organic, vegetarian, and vegan frozen foods—is using its know-how to open the nation’s first organic, vegetarian drive thru.

The restaurant’s menu includes a lineup of organic, vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan remakes of drive thru classics like burgers, pizzas, chili fries, and milkshakes.

“People have been asking us to do this for years—to create a place where they can go when they’re too busy to cook, but want something good for themselves or their family,” Amy’s Kitchen co-founder Rachel Berliner said to the Sonoma County Gazette. “We’re not restaurateurs, but we love to cook for people, so we decided to make it happen.”

The 4,000 square foot restaurant is situated off Highway 101 in Rohnert Park, Calif.—and according to a report from ABC7 News, since the opening of Amy’s Drive Thru, the line’s been out the door.

“So many (have) showed up and it’s given us a lot of hope that this is a concept that works,” said restaurant manager Paul Schiefer, reported by ABC7 News.

Amy’s Kitchen is using its long established relationships with local producers to provide high quality, organic, vegetarian, and vegan ingredients for its restaurant, such as coffee from Coast Roast and sour cream from Clover Stornetta Farms, according to the Sonoma County Gazette. What’s more, much of the menu ingredients (like the mac n’ cheese and veggie burgers) are made from scratch.

“Our relationships with farmers and our knowledge of how to make delicious food on a large scale has really made this project possible—we’ve been able to keep the quality high and the prices reasonable,” Amy’s Kitchen co-founder Andy Berliner said to the Sonoma County Gazette.

Even the building was built sustainably with a living roof, 50 solar panels, and an interior constructed of 95 percent repurposed and salvaged wood. Amy’s Kitchen wants to provide “hard-working citizens, busy families, and road-weary travelers” with hand-crafted American classics—like a veggie burger, shake, and fries for under $9.
