You’ve stocked your paleo pantry; you’ve scoured the web for food lists. You’ve even gotten your kids used to your new breakfast and dinner recipes. But what about lunch? With this diet that relies quite a lot on animal protein and vegetables, paleo lunch recipes can be a tough thing to get a handle on… especially when you eat lunch on the go.

But never fear — there’s no need to carry containers of plain boiled eggs or grilled chicken to work. We’ve got 7 portable paleo lunch recipes to help you master the midday meal.

1. Turkey Lettuce Wrap Tacos

If you’ve been missing Mexican food since jumping on the primal wagon, these lettuce tacos will help. They’re filled with turkey, avocado, vegetables, and tons of herbs and spices to add flavor. The only issue is that the lettuce will get soggy if you preassemble them, so you may want to place your filling in a container and spoon it into the lettuce leaves at the last minute.

2. A Thermos of Homemade Bone Broth

Bone broth is a paleo staple, and it’s also a super easy, nourishing lunch option when you really don’t have time to stop and eat. Heat your bone broth to a boil first thing in the morning and pour it into a thermos so that it stays warm. It should be at perfect sipping temperature come midday.

3. Paleo Crêpes

This high-protein breakfast can also be a filling lunch. Without the optional drops of sweetener, our paleo crêpes are the perfect platform for a French-style galette, to go. Simply add your choice of roasted or steamed vegetables, meat and egg, wrap them up like a burrito, and dig in!

4. Paleo Salad in a Jar

Mason jar salads can definitely be paleo-friendly. We love this simple paleo jar salad with mustard vinaigrette, maybe because of how versatile it is. You can easily switch up the raw veggies in here for any vegetables you have in the fridge. If you need more protein at lunch, you can even add some leftover cooked meat or boiled eggs. The variations are limitless.

5. Lamb Koftas

Take your inspiration from Greek cuisine with these tasty lamb koftas. Once you’ve tried them, you’ll see that they were pretty much made to be portable paleo. The seasoned lamb mixture is molded around a skewer, making for easy-to-hold, mess-free portions. We suggest that you make these the night before for dinner and take the leftovers to work the next day.

6. Chicken Kabobs

Continuing in the trend of meat on a stick are these tasty chicken kabobs. The chicken is threaded onto skewers along with flavorful fruits and veggies: tomato, red onion and pineapple for a touch of sweetness. The simple marinade keeps everything tender and juicy. These are just as yummy served cold as warm, so no worries if you don’t have a microwave at work.

7. Egg Muffins

If you have a muffin tin, you’re halfway there with these individually portioned omelettes. Egg muffins are quite tasty with an assortment of chopped vegetables, as in this recipe, but the reason they’re one of our favorite paleo staples is that they’re the perfect vessel for using up any leftovers from the night before, be they meat or veg. Just add them to the batter and bake them up — they’re a great protein-packed  snack, breakfast or lunch to have on-hand.
