Your skin is the largest organ in your body and while we try to keep it young and beautiful, our vanity may be putting our health at risk. As a woman, I have felt the pressure from society to try to keep my youthful appearance, and I never really put much thought into what was in the
cosmetic products I used to try to achieve this. I naively assumed that there was a sense of safety in using the products I could find in my neighborhood store. I was wrong, when I finally started to do some research for myself, I realized these products were nowhere near as safe as I had assumed them to be.
I was a bartender for most of my twenties, and I used to suffer from the cuticles’ on my hands splitting and cracking, no matter how much lotion I used. I figured it was from the
chemical solution we used to wash and sanitize the bar glasses but when I stopped bartending it didn’t go away. I was perplexed, I quit using harsh
cleaning products, which helped but didn’t make it go away completely. It wasn’t until I switched out my soaps, including liquid
hand soap,
body wash and shampoo, to sulfate-free versions did my cuticles’ finally heal up. I have not had the problem since making the switch, even here in dry
Colorado. Later this week I will share some of my recipes for homemade products, but for now, take some time to look what is in the products you use. I have already posted my
all natural toothpaste recipe, if you would like to try your hand at making your own
natural products, & don’t worry as long as you can use a bowl and a spoon, you can make your own toothpaste.
Only you can decide the price you are willing to pay for beauty. If you don’t have the desire to make your own products, there are many natural alternatives on the market. Just make sure you read the labels, even products advertised as natural may still contain ingredients you would like to avoid. You have the power to limit the amount of chemicals you and your family are exposed to, you can’t control the quality of the air outside but you can control the chemicals you put over your entire body.
